I want to comment on the aim of the following pages:
I've found explanations in microbiological textbooks, suggesting that authors had difficulties to explain the matter, but students have to learn it by heart for examinations. On the other hand I miss such graphic examples as continuous dilution, which could even be realized in experimental trials with pupils to "play with mathematics".
